How It Works

1.

Two-Hour
Intake
Evaluation

A two hour session with you and your young adult child to reach a preliminary diagnosis and initial course of action.

We’ll talk with you and your child together, as well as separately.

You can expect a preliminary diagnosis and recommended course of action. What we are able to learn here sets the stage for the following two week period.

2.

Two-Week
Preliminary
Program

The two week preliminary program is a way for us to “confirm” our diagnosis as we treat and monitor. Here we are continuing to evaluate as we begin a personalized treatment program for your loved one. At the end of the two weeks, we create a longer-term personalized treatment plan.

If at any point during this period, it becomes clear they immediately need a higher level of care, we will work with you to help place them.

3.

Personalized
Treatment
Plan

After the two week program, as a team with parents staff and child input, your young adult will be placed in one of three outpatient tracks.

About 30% of the time, we recommend an alternate course of care. We’ve been around a long time and “know everyone” and will always recommend what we believe will be best for your family.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

An intake evaluation is a comprehensive evaluation of your family situation and your teen or young adult’s mental health status.

Adolescent Advocates is specialized in personalized care for young people. That means whether your child is suffering from anxiety, depression, substance abuse related issues, or other forms of self-harm, we’re here to evaluate the whole person to reach a preliminary diagnosis and two week initial treatment plan.

We call your insurance to make sure your treatment will be covered.

There may be a copay for in-network insurances and it depends to an extent on your deductible and personal plan. Our in-network insurances are IBX, Aetna, and United Healthcare.

For out-of-network situations, we will work with you to communicate with the insurance company. We will develop a “super bill” with which to negotiate to help you come up with best possible outcome for your billing situation.

Most past patients that have been out-of-network are able to recover 50% or more of the costs.

For out-of-network or no insurance situations, we cap your out of pocket cost for an intake evaluation at $250.

You can expect an preliminary diagnosis and initial two week treatment plan. If we determine that your child is in a chronic critical situation, we will assist you in finding an inpatient treatment program or affiliate that better suits your needs.

In most cases we ask the family for a two week commitment to a treatment plan tailored for your loved one’s specific needs.

This means you become a part of our community, they are observed in a group setting, seen by several therapists sometimes as part of one of our intensive outpatient programs and our staff works together sharing input to come up with a solid longer term treatment plan.

At the end of the two weeks, we will have a solid diagnostic and, if need be, provide a referral to a psychiatrist to supplement our treatment.

“20 years sober last week

Hi Pattie! I just wanted to say thank you for your help all those years ago. My wife and I just had a baby and the parents are good. I’m 20 years sober as of last week. I’ll never be able to repay you but I just want you to know how important your help was for me getting here. XO

“My son had an instant connection w her. And 12 years later is still calling and checking in.

I first met her when my son was in trouble. Her name was always the first one that was mentioned – “she’s the best”. Needless to say that’s who I called. The bond and trust she has with our struggling children unlike any. My son had an instant connection w her. And 12 years later is still calling and checking in.
What I later have learned is that she had also trained some of the best new comers to the field of addiction.
I chair a parents group for family and parents of struggling children / adults. Her name comes up on a weekly basis as everyone’s go to angel.
For us and many she has saved countless lives and continues to strive to help the next suffering person.

“Adolescent Advocates saved my son’s life!

Adolescent Advocates saved my son’s life ! When my son and I first met with Patty I wasn’t sure if they would be able to help my son but not only did they provide the most supportive environment for my son but they know how to talk to and provide therapy to adolescents like no other place. My son is not only in recovery but thriving and I am so grateful to Patty, Troy, and the team at Adolescent Advocates for being the place my son came back to himself better than ever! It was a lot of work and he had to do the work but they provide the structure, guidance, and tools.

“My son flourished under the care of her staff!

My son needed help. I didn’t know where to turn. A friend recommended Adolescents. Although we were not clients at the time, Patti Anne saw him that day. She interviewed him and came up with a plan which included immediate admission to a rehab facility. Patti Anne handled all the intake info, and explained to him that this was the best scenario for his success. I learned that counseling and support groups were crucial for the whole family. My son flourished under the care of her staff! He has since finished college and is currently in grad school. Having a child in crisis is traumatic. We needed guidance and education. Although it wasn’t easy, Adolescents help was invaluable in navigating our road to recovery.

“This is the best place ever.

Adolescent & Young Adult Advocates saved my life.. When I walked in, I was fresh out of the psychiatric hospital dealing with a bipolar manic episode and severe depression. [… Now] I’ve been sober 160+ days and will never go back. I’ve learned how beautiful life can be sober and am going back to college in January at Rutgers. It was their belief in me that made all the difference. This is the best place ever.
